Privacy Policy

Summary

Contextory is designed with privacy at its core. All data is stored locally on your Mac. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of your personal information or activity data to any external servers. You don't need an account to use Contextory, and everything runs entirely on your device.

What Data We Collect

Contextory stores the following data locally on your Mac:

• App names and usage time: Which applications you use and when, to create your activity timeline.
• User notes: Any notes you choose to write within the app, linked to your activity timeline.

All of this data is stored locally in a SQLite database on your Mac. It never leaves your device.

What We Do NOT Collect

Contextory v1.0 does not collect, record, or transmit:

• Keystrokes or text you type outside of the app
• Screen recordings or screenshots
• Microphone recordings
• File contents or document text
• Personal information or account credentials
• Any data transmitted to external servers

Local AI (Ollama)

If you choose to enable local AI features, you will need to install Ollama separately. When AI features are enabled:

• AI models run entirely on your local machine
• Your prompts and data never leave your device
• We do not receive, store, or have access to any AI prompts or responses
• Ollama is a separate tool that you install and manage independently

Optional Semantic Memory (RAG)

If you enable semantic memory features using Chroma:

• The vector index is stored entirely locally on your Mac
• Embeddings are generated locally using your local Ollama installation
• No vector data is uploaded or transmitted externally

Third-Party Services

By default, Contextory does not use any third-party services or APIs. All functionality runs locally on your device. The only exception is if you choose to download AI models through Ollama, which is a separate tool that you install and manage independently.

Data Retention

You have full control over your data. All data is stored locally on your Mac, and you can:

• Delete individual notes or entries at any time
• Reset or clear all data through the app settings
• Uninstall the app, which removes all associated data (stored in standard macOS app data locations)
